Disinfecting

Disinfecting and sterilization, cleaned first

Sick rooms, nurseries before the baby comes home, and shared offices. Soil comes off first, then the surfaces and soft goods that get touched.

Chapter 01

When disinfecting earns its place

Most rooms need a good cleaning, not a disinfecting. It matters after someone in the household has been ill, in a nursery before a newborn arrives, and in shared spaces where many hands and many shoes cross the same floor, like an office or a co-working space.

In those rooms the carpet, the rug and the sofa are the soft surfaces everyone lives on, and they hold what a hard-surface wipe-down never reaches.

Clean first, then disinfect

A disinfectant can't do its job through soil. Dust, skin oil and dried spills sit between the product and the surface, so the first pass is always a clean: vacuuming, then extraction on carpet and rugs, and the right method for each fabric on furniture.

Only then do we go over the high-touch surfaces and the soft goods. Door handles, switches, chair arms and the edges of tables get attention before the floor does, because that is where hands land.

We won't promise you a sterile room, because no one can after the door opens again. We will leave surfaces clean and treated. Ask us what a given room needs on (888) 919-2393.

Chapter 03

Nursery prep before the baby arrives

A newborn spends hours on the floor, on a play mat and in a crib, so the room gets done properly before the first night home. The carpet or rug is cleaned, the upholstered chair gets cleaned, and the mattress is cleaned and left to air.

Plan it a few days ahead. Carpets usually dry in 4 to 6 hours, but a rug picked up for washing needs its trip home too, and pickup and delivery are free across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, Long Island and Westchester.

Nursery

The room, in the order we do it

Four soft surfaces, cleaned before anything is treated. A shared office follows the same order, and our commercial cleaning runs on contracts. Questions first? Use the contact page or call (888) 919-2393.

  1. 1

The carpet. Wall-to-wall carpet is extracted first; see carpet cleaning for how the pass works and how long it takes to dry.

  2. 2

The rug. A pale grey area rug leaves the room for washing, which is the whole point of area rug cleaning with free pickup and delivery.

  3. 3

The armchair. Fabric code first, then the method; the details are under sofa and upholstery cleaning.

  4. 4

The mattress. Low moisture so the core doesn't stay wet; read mattress cleaning for what lives in one and how it comes out.
